So you've registered, or you're thinking about registering, for the Abominable Snow Race. Now what? Well, to race like a Yeti you have to prepare like a Yeti. Download our free ASR survival guide to help you prepare for the 2023 Abominable Snow Race!
The most common obstacle seen at Abominable Snow Race is running. You must be able to cover 4-6 snow covered miles between the start line and the finish line. This means that you need to run in training.
When it comes to running training, don’t just run to run. Building an aerobic base requires specific run training.
To become efficient out on the Abominable Snow Race course, you need to run smarter, not harder.
Hanging obstacles are some of the most iconic obstacles on the Abominable Snow Race course. Contrary to popular belief, most hanging obstacles are not a true test of your grip strength, they are actually a test of your total body strength and stability.
When preparing for hanging obstacles, there are two main techniques
In the video The OCR Trainer helps you understand the benefits of each technique, and prepare you for the Summit's Peak, Yeti's Lair, and Siberian Swing obstacles that you'll face on race day.
Ankle sprains are the most common injuries in the sport of Obstacle Course Racing. Here at Abominable Snow Race, we want to combat these injuries before they plague any of our athletes in 2023.
In order to prevent ankle injuries out on the course, you must start training your ankles to roll, and to recover, come race day. This ensures that your muscles and ligaments can perceive the mechanism of the sprain early and bounce back or stop the injury before it sidelines you.
Training for Ankle Injury Prevention:
To finish the Abominable Snow Race strong and injury-free, plan out your training to build resilient, iron ankles.
The posterior chain refers to muscle groups along the backside of the body as opposed to muscles belonging to the anterior chain on the front of the body. The OCR Trainer discusses how strengthening your backside can take your performance to the next level, by adding these upper-body and lower-body exercises to your workouts.
On race day, you'll face the obstacle "Cold Climb-It", a 14' rope climb. Rope climbs are the most predictable and therefore the easiest obstacles to master out on course.... and it's not about strength; it’s all a matter of your technique.
The OCR Trainer demonstrates two rope climbing techniques in this week's #TrainingTip video. The S-Hook and the J-Hook. Master the hook and you'll conquer Cold Climb It with ease.
